Whirlpool’s annual revenue for 2022 was a staggering $17.724B. While this is less than it made in 2021, the figure is still absolutely massive. Whirlpool is a company that has become synonymous with quality household appliances. But where are its dishwashers made? Well, that’s what I’ll be looking at in this article.
Who Makes Whirlpool Dishwashers?
Whirlpool dishwashers are made by the Whirlpool Corporation. Whirlpool is the flagship brand of the Whirlpool Corporation. It’s not the only brand owned by the Whirlpool Corporation though; it also owns Jenn-Air, Maytag, KitchenAid, and more.
The Whirlpool Corporation was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan back in 1911. It is a company that has achieved a lot over its tenure, including producing the very first automatic washing machines for consumer use.
Where are Whirlpool Dishwashers Made?
According to Wikipedia, Whirlpool has nine manufacturing facilities in the US. They can be found in the following locations. One in Iowa, one in Oklahoma, one in Tennessee, five in Ohio, and one in Massachusetts.
According to the same Wiki page, these manufacturing facilities count for at least 5% of the company’s employees. So, as you can imagine, it does conduct quite a large percentage of its manufacturing at facilities overseas.
Whirlpool operates a number of facilities in China, India, Argentina, Brazil, Italy, and other countries. Whirlpool’s official website has a list of all of its locations for manufacturing, distribution, and its various global offices.
As for its dishwashers, they are made in different countries. Finding out the specifics was pretty difficult but as of 2020, the Chinese section of Whirlpool has been investing lots of money into a smart dishwasher plant in Hefei, Anhui, China.
That said, some of its models are produced in the US. According to a few of Whirlpool’s dishwasher model feature pages, some of them are ‘designed, engineered, and assembled in the US with American pride.’
This phrase doesn’t really say much, as assembled doesn’t necessarily mean manufactured. It could just be that its dishwashers are made overseas before being sent over to the US to be put together. It is unclear how much of the production of its American assembled models takes place in the US.
Unfortunately, that’s where the trail ends. So, Whirlpool manufactures a lot of its dishwashers in China and assembles some of its models in the US. It may also produce some dishwashers in other facilities around the world, but details were hard to come by.
We have already researched and made an article about dishwashers made in the USA. So, if you want to see what options are out there then check it out.
Whirlpool tends not to go into much detail regarding the specifics of its manufacturing. If we find out any more information then we will update this article. Alternatively, if any readers know more about Whirlpool’s dishwasher manufacturing then get in touch and let us know.
History of Whirlpool Dishwashers
With it being such a long-standing company, it has a very rich history. I couldn’t find out the exact date that it started manufacturing dishwashers. But, in 1956, Whirlpool toured the US with its ‘Miracle Kitchen’.
The idea of the miracle kitchen was to show consumers the kitchens of tomorrow. This exhibition featured a mobile dishwasher. Its Miracle Kitchen was even featured at the World’s Fair which helped to make the company a household name.
As time went on, Whirlpool set out to acquire some of its competitors. It acquired Seeger Refrigerator Company and RCA’s air conditioner and cooking range lines in 1955.
In 1989, KitchenAid became a subsidiary of Whirlpool, In 2006, Whirlpool bought Maytag for $1.7B, and the list goes on.
As it stands today, Whirlpool owns a handful of major appliance manufacturers making it one of the largest household appliance companies on the planet.
