Whirlpool is an international giant. It sells appliances to consumers in countries all over the world. But what about its manufacturing? Specifically, where does the company manufacture its refrigerators and who makes them? Well, that’s what I’ll be looking at in this article.
Who Makes Whirlpool Refrigerators?
As mentioned in the intro, Whirlpool is an international giant. It makes and sells products under a number of different brand names such as KitchenAid, Maytag, and Jenn-Air.
All of the information I found points to Whirlpool products being made by the Whirlpool company itself.
I could find nothing to show that any of Whirlpool’s refrigerator manufacturing is being carried out by any external companies. So, a fridge purchased by Whirlpool is made by Whirlpool.
Where are Whirlpool Refrigerators Made?
With it being such a large company, Whirlpool owns and operates facilities in countries all over the world.
According to the website, Ortega’s Appliance, Whirlpool operates eight major factories throughout Ohio and Oklahoma. It is at these locations that Whirlpool manufactures some of its refrigerators.
The information above was featured in almost every source I came across. So, I feel it’s safe to say that this information is pretty accurate.
However, not all of Whirlpool’s refrigerators are made in the USA. The company operates facilities in Mexico, Europe, and Asia. Its Mexican plants produce some of Whirlpool’s refrigerators.
But as stated in most of the sources I found, the majority of Whirlpool refrigerators are made in the USA. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find out which specific models are American made. So, I’d recommend reaching out and contacting the company directly before making a purchase.
Also, I couldn’t find out where the company gets its components and materials. Usually, companies of this size would use both domestic and internationally sourced materials and components to manufacture their products.
History of Whirlpool Refrigerators
Whirlpool has a very rich history in the world of kitchen and home appliances. The company introduced its first line of refrigerators in 1950. While its first models weren’t exactly perfect, as time has gone on, Whirlpool has mastered the art of manufacturing refrigerators.
In 1965, Whirlpool introduced the side-by-side refrigerator. This type of refrigerator has a side dedicated to frozen goods and another for refrigerated goods. This appliance became a very popular type of appliance and it is still used to this day.
Today, as more people are looking for more ways to save energy, Whirlpool has manufactured a plethora of energy-efficient refrigerator models that help save customers money on their energy bills while also being better for the environment.
