Who Makes KitchenAid Dishwashers?
KitchenAid is owned by the major appliance manufacturer, the Whirlpool Corporation. In 1989, Whirlpool purchased KitchenAid, and it now manufactures almost all of KitchenAid’s products. I found this information on the website American Appliance Repair and on KitchenAid’s official site.
Whirlpool is a Michigan-based company that has a fair few brands under its ownership. This includes Amana and Maytag.
According to the information I could find, Whirlpool manufactures most of its subsidiary’s products.
Where are KitchenAid dishwashers Made?
As we found out, KitchenAid dishwashers are made by the Whirlpool Corporation. The Whirlpool Corporation likes to keep manufacturing within the US. In fact, according to one source, Statista.com, Whirlpool operates 12 manufacturing facilities within the US. It has more manufacturing facilities in the US than any other country.
There may be a little bit of conflicting information with the graph above, as according to Whirlpools’ official website, it operates facilities in 9 states throughout the US. Perhaps some states have more than one facility, but I wasn’t able to confirm this.
Whirlpool’s website also showed details of two corporate facilities that are located in Canada. We have already covered the topic of Canadian made dishwashers for those wanting to take a look.
On Whirlpool’s official website, there’s a section regarding its dishwasher manufacturing facility. Findlay, Ohio is Whirlpool’s largest dishwasher production center.
As for which specific dishwasher models are made in America, I came across a Q&A page on one of BestBuy’s KitchenAid dishwashers. One customer asked where KitchenAid’s dishwasher lines are made, and an official KitchenAid representative responded by saying that all of KitchenAid’s dishwashers are made in the USA.
So, in conclusion, while not all of Whirlpool’s manufacturing takes place within the US, the evidence points towards all of KitchenAid’s dishwashers being made by Whirlpool in America.
History of KitchenAid Dishwashers
With KitchenAid being around for over 100 years, it has a rich history surrounding the making of its products, this is especially true for its dishwashers.
While Kitchen Aid was founded back in 1918, it wasn’t until 1949 that it branched out into the dishwasher industry.
In 1986, The Whirlpool Corporation purchased KitchenAid for $150 Million after complaints surrounding competition from a couple of other dishwasher manufacturers were dismissed.
A promotional campaign that ran in the late 80s by retailer Williams Sonoma doubled the brands’ awareness in just three years.
Since then, KitchenAid has been a company that people know and trust. It has picked up numerous awards for its dishwashers, including a few Red Dot Awards, and has been named among the top 5 household dishwashers of 2023 by CNET.
