Who Makes Bissell Vacuums?

Bissell is owned by BISSELL Homecare, Inc. The owner of BISSELL Homecare, Inc. is Mark Bissell. Since the company was founded in 1876, it has remained in the hands of the Bissell family.

According to the website Ced, Bissell is the seventh oldest privately held manufacturing company in the United States.

I was unable to find out whether Bissell vacuums are made by the company itself or whether they are made by an external company.

The Bissell website has information about all of its locations throughout the world. Most of its facilities are offices and distribution centers. As for its manufacturing, the company primarily seems to conduct its product development in China.

It does not state whether or not the company owns the facilities in China on the company’s website. However, it does use the phrase ‘Associates across China’ which seems to suggest that Bissell has at least some help from external companies.

Where are Bissell Vacuums Made?

Bissell runs offices all over the world. But as for its manufacturing, as indicated in the section above, a lot of the company’s production takes place in China.

The company also has manufacturing facilities in Vietnam, Malaysia, and Mexico. However, the vast majority of its manufacturing is carried out through facilities in China.

Every online source I found states that Bissell vacuum cleaners are all made overseas, mainly in China. While I could not find this statement on the company’s website, the information I did find on the Bissell website seems to confirm that its manufacturing is carried out overseas.

I also had a look at some of Bissell’s vacuum cleaners listed on Amazon, under the ‘Country of origin’ section on each product it says ‘China’.

So, I feel like it’s safe to say that if you buy a Bissell vacuum cleaner, then it was probably made in China.

If you want to take a look at where other vacuum cleaner companies manufacture their products then we have a few articles you may want to take a look at.

History of Bissell Vacuums

As mentioned toward the beginning of this article, Bissell has been in the industry since 1876. The company was founded in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was founded by the Bissell family and it is still owned by the Bissell family today.

The company received its first patent in 1876 for a carpet sweeper. But it wasn’t long until the Bissell name took off. By the late 1800s, Bissell had begun introducing new carpet sweepers and it was selling its brushes both in the US and abroad.

In 1907, the company released its first line of vacuum cleaners. However, it ran on gasoline. It wasn’t until 1919 that the company started producing electric vacuum cleaners. Bissell’s electric vacuum cleaners became an instant hit thanks to their ease of use and suction power.

For the rest of the century, Bissell continued to design new lines of vacuum cleaners. In the 60s, the company started selling various carpet-related products like shampoos and cleaning machines specifically made to clean carpets and rugs.

Today, Bissell is very focused on being as environmentally friendly as possible. Bissell works hard with various charity organizations to become a greener company.
