Which Brands Produce German Made Vacuum Cleaners? (The Short Answer)

Most people will be quite surprised to learn that there are in fact a few German made vacuum brands out there. Those brands are Miele, SEBO, Thomas, and Vorwerk.

Vacuum Cleaners Made in Germany – Introducing 4 Different Brands

Miele

Starting off with a big one, we have Miele. Founded in 1899 in Herzebrock, Germany, Miele started by producing cream separators and tub washing machines. Over the years, the company has expanded to cover almost every household appliance you can think of. Refrigerators, tumble driers, ovens, and of course, vacuum cleaners.

Miele has a very popular range of vacuum cleaners. These include the Complete C3 Cylinder Vacuum CleanerTriflex HX1 Facelift, and the Blizzard CX1 Bagless Vacuum Cleaner. Miele is recognized as one of the best German vacuum cleaner companies on the market.

Miele has eight production centers in Germany, six production centers in various other European countries, and a warehouse in China. Because of the sheer number of production centers, it’s not easy to say that their vacuum cleaners are all 100% made in Germany. However, according to their website, nearly all of their vacuum cleaners are made in Germany.

SEBO

SEBO is a German vacuum cleaner brand with its headquarters located in Vilbert, Germany. Founded back in 1978, SEBO is a relatively new company when compared to the more senior brands on this list. However, that doesn’t mean they are inferior. In fact, SEBO is one of Germany’s leading household appliance brands.

One of the company’s founders, Klaus Stein, actually gained a lot of his experience working for Vorwerk prior to creating SEBO with fellow engineer Heinz Kaulig. So it’s safe to say that SEBO knows its way around a vacuum cleaner.

Due to the expertise of the founders and the quality of the materials used, SEBO vacuum cleaners are built to last up to 20 years. By manufacturing all of their vacuum cleaners in Germany, SEBO is one of the only German vacuum companies to design and produce all of their products within Germany.

SEBO is considered by many to be one of the best German vacuum brands out there. Their models include the Airbelt E3 Premium Canister Vacuum Cleaner range, the SEBO AUTOMATIC X4 Upright Vacuum Cleaner, and the SEBO FELIX Premium Upright Vacuum Cleaner.

Thomas

Thomas is a bit of a strange one. Whilst they are a German founded vacuum cleaner brand that manufactures its products in Germany, there isn’t much more information that I could find about them. The only other concrete thing I could find was that the creator, Robert Tomas, was once hired as a subcontractor for big brands like Siemens and Bauknecht.

However, it’s all German! German canister vacuums, German bagless vacuums, German upright vacuums, you name it, they make it in Germany! Some of their models include the Thomas Cycloon Hybrid Family & Pets and the Quicktrick Turbo Plus.

Thomas also has a range of aqua vacuum cleaners, otherwise known as carpet cleaners. These machines are excellent for giving your carpets a professional cleaning without having to hire a professional cleaner. Here’s a link, just in case you wanted to have a look for yourself.

Vorwerk

The final entry on this list is Vorwerk. Vorwerk is another German brand vacuum cleaner company. It was founded in 1883 in Wuppertal, Germany, by Adolf and Carl Vorwerk. The company has worked in a variety of different sectors, including textiles, electronics, retail, and more.

As far as manufacturing locations go, Vorwerk has plants located in Germany, France, and China. This makes it difficult to say for certain which of their vacuum cleaners are manufactured in Germany. But using the information I could find on their website, it seems like a pretty even spread of manufacturing between the three countries. So your Vorwerk vacuum cleaner might only be 33% German!

Just in case you are still interested in having a look at some vacuum cleaners that may or may not be 100% made in Germany, some of the products that Vorwerk produces include the Kobold VK 150 Upright Vacuum Cleaner and the Cobold VC 100 Handheld Vacuum Cleaner.
