Who Makes Frigidaire Refrigerators?

The Electrolux Group owns Frigidaire. Electrolux is a Swedish multinational company that specializes in producing quality home appliances. According to the Frigidaire website, the Electrolux Group manages global responsible sourcing on behalf of its subsidiaries.

This post talks about transparency in supply chains. However, it does seem to indicate that Electrolux has a lot to do with the production of its subsidiaries.

According to ChatGPT, Frigidaire products are manufactured by the Electrolux Group. While it is usually worth taking information from ChatGPT with a pinch of salt, this ties in with what various other sources are saying.

So, as for who makes Frigidaire refrigerators, it looks like the answer is the Electrolux Group.

Where are Frigidaire Refrigerators Made?

While Frigidaire products are made in facilities all over the world, according to multiple sources, the company’s refrigerators are made in three countries, the US, China, and Mexico.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be much information on the Frigidaire website regarding where its refrigerators are made. All of the information I found comes mostly from third-party sources.

The website, Machine Answered states that Frigidaire refrigerators are made in the US, China, and Mexico. This matches what most other websites are saying. So it looks like there’s some truth in this.

But that’s where the trail went cold for me. So, Frigidaire refrigerators appear to be between the three countries listed above. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any makes and models that are made in the USA as Frigidaire doesn’t seem to label its refrigerators particularly clearly.

If there are any Frigidaire fridge owners who know more then feel free to get in touch via the comment section below.

History of Frigidaire Refrigerators

Frigidaire was founded by Alfred Mellowes in 1916. At the time it was founded, it went by the name Guardian Frigerator Company. In 1918, Frigidaire introduced its first self-contained refrigerator designed for home use.

This became a huge hit with consumers as they no longer had to rely on ice deliveries to keep food cold. As time went on, Frigidaire continued to make advancements in refrigeration technology.

In 1919, General Motors (GM) acquired Frigidaire. This gave Frigidaire more opportunities to invent as the company gained all the benefits that came with being a part of the GM family.

As the decades went on, Frigidaire started producing various household appliances like ovens, washing machines, dishwashers, and more.

With all of its product lines, Frigidaire made its way to countries outside the US. In the 1980s, Electrolux acquired Frigidaire from General Motors.

This acquisition really helped to expand Frigidaire’s portfolio and it began producing more products than ever. But at its core, most of the company’s efforts went into its refrigerator manufacturing.

Today, Frigidaire sells its products to customers in roughly 120 countries worldwide, making it a far-reaching and well-established brand in the refrigerator market.
