Almost everyone has at least one stuffed animal that they look back on with fond memories. A quality made stuffed animal can last a lifetime and even be passed on through the generations. In this article, I’ll be looking at stuffed animals made in the USA.
Which Companies Sell Stuffed Animals Made in America? (The Short Answer)
After an extensive search for American made stuffed animals, I found 2 companies that offer them. They are Vermont Teddy Bear and Big Plush.
American Made Stuffed Animals (I Found These)
Now that we know which companies offer American-made stuffed animals, let’s look at each business in a little more detail.
Vermont Teddy Bear
Vermont Teddy Bear is a proud American company having been founded in 1981 in Burlington, Vermont by John Sortino. Over the decades, the company has grown to become a widely known stuffed animal producer across the US.
American manufacturing is something that Vermont Teddy Bear takes very seriously. In fact, the company has a section on its website dedicated to its manufacturing locations. You can see that here.
It is important to note that not all of Vermont Teddy Bear’s manufacturing takes place in the US. According to the company’s official website, its Hybrid Bears are partially sewn in China before being shipped to the US to be finished.
As for its American-made stuffed animals, all of the company’s classic collection is made in the USA by a talented crew of employees who make them by hand at the company’s facility in Vermont.
Luckily, Vermont Teddy Bear has made it very easy to find its American-made bears as it has a section dedicated to its American made teddy bears on its website. However, it is important to note that it looks like the outfits that the teddy bears wear are mainly made in China.
Here’s a link to the company’s American made teddy bears. If you want one that is solely made in the USA then I’d recommend selecting one that doesn’t come with an outfit.
Big Plush
Big Plush is a company that doesn’t produce just any old stuffed animal, this is a company that produces giant stuffed animals! Whether you are looking for a gift for a baby or maybe a plushy-loving friend, Big Plush might just be the perfect company for you.
Being an American manufacturer is something that the folks at Big Plush take very seriously. The company has a page on its website that goes into detail regarding its production locations and methods.
This page also showcases all of its American-made stuffed animals and teddy bears. From what I was able to find, it looks like Big Plush produces its American-made products at a facility in Newark, New Jersey.
At the time of writing this article, Big Plush had over 180 different American-made products to choose from. Here’s a link where you can see all of them. Something else that’s good to know is that the company also manufactures a lot of its American-made products by using only American-sourced material. You can find out which of its products are made using American-sourced materials by checking out the product descriptions on its website.
Honorable Mentions
I found a couple of companies that didn’t quite make it onto the list above. One had conflicting information and the other didn’t have enough concrete information to be featured above. Here’s what I found.
‘EmBears
‘EmBears is a stuffed animal producer that was founded in 2000. Unfortunately, there wasn’t all that much information out there regarding the company, and its website had some conflicting information which has made it difficult to find out exactly where the company operates.
The company’s slogan is ‘Teddy Bears Made in St. Lawrence County, N.Y.’ However, by scrolling down to the bottom of any of its pages, it has a little note that reads ‘EmBears are handmade in Wayne County, Ohio.’ As you can see, this is conflicting information.
So, it is unclear where the company’s manufacturing actually takes place, but it does look like it is carried out in the US. Here’s a link to the company’s homepage. Here you will see all that it has to offer.
The Bear Factory
The Bear Factory is a very well-known company having sold literally tens of thousands of stuffed animals over the years. Recently, the company has branched out to add a new 100% sustainable line of products for those wanting to be more eco-friendly.
I couldn’t find much about the company’s manufacturing location on its official website, but I did find some information from a third-party source.
Made in USA Forever, offers many lines of The Bear Factory’s stuffed animals with a label stating ‘Made in USA.’ However, I could not find any information from the company itself to back this up so it gets an honorable mention. Stuffed Animals that People Confuse as Being USA Made
I came across one company that was featured on several third-party websites as an American manufacturer. However, upon closer inspection, it turns out that the company manufactures all of its products overseas. Here’s what I found.
Bears For Humanity
Bears For Humanity is a company that focuses on bringing eco-friendly and safe products to kids all over the US. It also takes pride in offering a fair wage to all involved in its manufacturing whilst also donating to good causes.
According to several third-party sources, Bears For Humanity conducts its manufacturing within the USA. However, this simply isn’t the case. The company’s FAQ page clearly states that all of its plush animals, toys, and gifts, are manufactured at facilities in India. It is unclear where the third-party sites are getting their information from as this information was very easy to find.
