Are There Any Lawn Mowers Made in the USA? (The Short Answer)

Finding American made lawn mowers is a little trickier than it seemed. While there are lots of companies that manufacture lawn mowers in the US, most of them rely on engines from China and Japan.

That said, I was able to find a handful of companies that may manufacture some of their lawn mower lines in the US. But, even then, details were hard to come by.

American Made Lawn Mower Brands (What My Research Turned Up)

Here’s what I found.

Snapper

Snapper was founded in 1894 as Southern Saw Works. As the years went by, Snapper underwent several changes to become what it is today. It is important to note that a lot of the company’s manufacturing takes place overseas.

Today, the company is owned by Briggs & Stratton. While some of Snapper’s products are made overseas, a handful of Snapper’s lawn mowers are produced at facilities in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Sherrill, New York. As for its engines, they are manufactured by Briggs & Stratton in facilities dotted around the US.

Unfortunately, as you can see in the image above, the company produces select lines in the US, but it doesn’t actually state which models are American made. Here’s a link to the company’s mower page, and here’s another containing Snapper’s contact information. I’d recommend reaching out to the company directly to find out which of its products are American made.

Cub Cadet

Cub Cadet was founded in 1960. It has a rich history as one of America’s most popular manufacturers of agricultural and construction equipment. The company offers a wide range of products for gardening, this includes several lines of lawn mowers.

According to the company’s official website, it has been building its garden equipment in the USA since 1961. It owns world-class facilities in Ohio, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Cub Cadet’s engines are made by a company called MTD. MTD manufactures its engines both in the US and overseas. This makes it difficult to tell which of Cub Cadet’s lawn mowers are 100% American made.

Also, not too long ago, Cub Cadet joined up with a major Asian company. This makes it even more difficult to decipher which of its products are American made. You can read about Cub Cadet’s business dealings with the Asian company here.

So, much like with Snapper, if you want to make sure that you receive an American made lawn mower, I’d recommend reaching out to the company directly. Here’s a link to Cub Cadet’s lawn mower product page. And here’s another to the company’s contact details.

John Deere

John Deere is a very well-known company in countries all over the world. It is mainly known for its tractors but it also produces other power equipment products, this includes lawn mowers.

With it being an international company, it will come as no surprise to learn that John Deere has facilities in various countries worldwide. Its agricultural tractors, combines, and engines are primarily made in China.

As for its lawn mowers, its ride-on mowers are made at the company’s manufacturing location in Horicon, Wisconsin. They are made using mostly American parts. But most isn’t all. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find much regarding how much exactly is made within the US.

Honda

Honda is a Japanese founded company that has been manufacturing engines and power equipment since 1948. It is a very well-known brand and it has facilities and distribution centers in countries all around the world.

While most of Honda’s manufacturing is carried out overseas, some of its lawn mowers are made in the USA. However, just like all the other entries on this list, there isn’t much information regarding the specifics.

According to Honda’s website, some lawn movers are assembled at Honda plants in the US and around the world. That’s all I could find. I couldn’t find out what Honda means by ‘assembled’ and I wasn’t able to find any specific American made models.
