Not everyone has an emergency radio, but for those who do, it’s essential that they are reliable. While many countries manufacture emergency radios, does the US produce any? In this article, I’ll be looking at emergency radios made in the USA.
Do Any Brands Produce American Made Emergency Radios? (The Short Answer)
After lots of digging, I couldn’t find a single company that reliably manufactures emergency radios in the USA. However, I did find one company that might manufacture some of its products in the US, so we will be taking a look at that company.
Honorable Mention
As mentioned, after lots of searching, I could only find one company that may produce some of its radios in the USA, although I can’t be 100% certain. Here’s what I found.
C. Crane
C. Crane is an American-based radio company located in Fortuna, California. For almost 30 years C. Crane has been manufacturing reliable radios for people all over the US. According to its website, C. Crane is passionate about designing and producing radios that the company is proud of.
As far as manufacturing goes, things aren’t particularly clear. Apart from the company stating that it is located in Fortuna, California, there wasn’t much more information out there. Even after taking a deep dive into any ties that the company has with any other businesses, there really wasn’t much else out there.
So, while it may manufacture its emergency radios in the US, there’s also a chance that it outsources its production to facilities overseas. If there are any readers out there with more information on C. Crane then get in touch via the comment section below.

Emergency Radios that Are Mistaken as Being Made in the USA
Two companies kept popping up in my search for American-made emergency radios. However, they don’t manufacture their products in the USA. It looks like most if not all of their production is carried out in China.
Midland USA
Midland USA is a very well-known company that produces a wide range of radios, this includes emergency radios. As mentioned above, on the surface, it looks like the company is an American manufacturer. However, after taking a closer look, this doesn’t seem to be the case.
Usually, I’d find the misinformation on small third-party websites and not on big and well-established blog sites. Unfortunately, several well-known websites have this company listed as an American manufacturer, with some even listing specific products as being American-made. All of Midland USA’s emergency radios that I came across are produced in China.
After heading to the company’s official Amazon store, I took a look through its Q and A section. It clearly states more than once across each model I could find that its products are manufactured in China.
Also, numerous customers have commented on many of the company’s product listings to say that their product was made in China.
I’m unsure where all of the misinformation originates, but it is strange that some of the most well-known blog sites have the company down as an American manufacturer.
Sangean
Sangean was founded in 1974. It began as a small operation but it quickly grew and has since sold thousands of radios to customers all over the world. While it is a well-known company, there seems to be some confusion regarding its manufacturing locations.
It isn’t actually an American company like some third-party sites state. Sangean is a Taiwanese electrical company. This information was very easy to find as it was clear to see on the company’s official website, so I’m not sure why some sites have claimed that it’s an American-founded company.
As for its manufacturing, I found a handful of sites listing Sangean’s radios as American-made, but this isn’t the case. Sangean manufactures most of its products at a facility in Dongguan, China.
A Question For The Readers
As you can see above, I wasn’t able to find much when it comes to American-made emergency radios. If there are any readers out there who know of any companies that belong on this list then get in touch via the comment section below. Your comments help the site to grow.
