Electric bikes have grown in popularity over the last few years, mainly due to the pandemic as people needed ways to travel that didn’t involve being too close to other people. In this article, I’ll be looking at electric bikes made in the USA.
Companies That Offer Electric Bikes Made in the USA? (The Short Answer)
After doing a little digging, I was able to find 2 companies that manufacture electric bikes in the USA. They are Hi-Power Cycles and Electric Bike Company.
American Made Electric Bikes (A List of Manufacturers)
So, now that we know which brands manufacture electric bikes in the USA, let’s take a closer look at the companies behind the brands.
Hi-Power Cycles
Hi-Power Cycles was founded by brothers Chris and Derek Hunt in 2008. The company specializes in producing high-quality high performance electric bicycles for American consumers.
Thanks to its dedication to research and improvement, some of Hi-Power Cycles’ batteries can run for up to 100 miles. On top of that, some of its models can reach speeds over 60 mph.
Hi-Power Cycles is a very proud American company that has been producing its bikes in the US since its inception back in 2008.
The company operates out of a facility in Southern California, this is where most of its manufacturing takes place. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find out where the company sources all of its materials, but it does state on its website that it gets as much of its materials as possible from local businesses.

Electric Bike Company
Electric Bike Company is an American bike company that manufactures high-quality electric bikes. It was founded in 2014 and since its inception, it has manufactured all of its products in the US.
The company works closely with local bike builders to manufacture the highest quality e-bike possible. Each electric bike is made at its facility in Newport Beach, California. That said, the Electric Bike company does get some of its materials from other countries.
Its electric bikes are all made to order and each one is completely customizable meaning that you can get yourself a one-of-a-kind electric bike. On top of that, each bike comes with a 5-year warranty on the battery and a 10-year warranty on the motor and frame.

Honorable Mention
I found one company that does manufacture its electric bike frames in the US. However, it was unclear where the other components of its e-bikes are made, so it gets an honorable mention.
Outrider USA
Outrider USA was founded in 2009. It was started by former college roommates Tommy Ausherman and Daniel Rhyne. The company is located in Fletcher, North Carolina. This is where its frames are assembled by hand by highly skilled staff.
According to Outrider USA’s website, all of the major frame components have been designed by Outrider USA and are manufactured in the USA. So, it’s not very clear where its other parts come from.

Electric Bikes that Are Commonly Mistaken as Being Made in the USA
There’s a lot of misinformation out there when it comes to American-made electric bikes. So, I’m going to clear things up. First, I’d like to say that the misinformation doesn’t seem to be coming from these companies directly, it seems to be coming from third-party sources. Here’s what I found.
Ride1UP (Made in China)
Ride1UP is an American e-bike company. It was founded in 2018 by some very passionate bikers. The company is very open regarding its manufacturing locations. On Ride1UP’s FAQ page, the company states that its products are built in multiple countries and assembled in China.
Aventon (Made in China)
Aventon started back in 2017. It is a well-known e-bike company despite being a relatively young company. As for its manufacturing, its products are actually assembled in South California. However, all of the parts are made in China.
Rad Power (Made in China)
Rad Power is an e-bike company that is based in the heart of Seattle. It was founded in 2007 and the company is renowned for its powerful electric bikes. Third-party sites seem to be confusing the ‘phrase based in’ with ‘made in.’ While the company is based in the USA, its products are all produced in China.
Juiced (Made in China)
Juiced was founded in 2009, it is a San Diego-based company that manufactures a plethora of high-quality electric bikes. However, just like the previous entry, the company is based in the US, but it carried out its production in China.
Blix (Made in Asia)
Blix is another US-based company that conducts its business operations out of Santa Cruz. It is a pretty popular brand and the name Blix is highly recognized across many parts of the US. As for its production, it is carried out somewhere in Asia, although I wasn’t able to pinpoint whereabouts its manufacturing takes place.
Specialized (Made in Switzerland)
Specialized was founded back in 1974. However, it wasn’t until 2009 that the company branched out into the electric bike market. These days, Specialized produces its products at a facility in Switzerland before having them shipped over to the US for inspection.
Cannondale (Made in Taiwan)
Cannondale is an American company that was founded in 1971. Although it wasn’t until the 2000s that the company started the production of electric bikes. Its products are manufactured in Taiwan. I believe that people may be assuming that the company produces its products in the US because it is a US-based company.
Pedego (Made in Taiwan, Vietnam, and China)
Pedego was founded in 2008. It grew very quickly due to its high-quality electric bikes and it is now a well-recognized brand in the world of electric bikes. The company is based in Orange County, Calif. However, its products are made in facilities in Taiwan, Vietnam, and China.
Trek (Made in Germany, The Netherlands, Taiwan, and China)
The final company that often gets mistaken as an American manufacturer is Trek. Trek was founded in 1975 and its headquarters is located in Waterloo, Wisconsin. Third-party sources have listed this company as an American manufacturer. However, its products are made in Germany, the Netherlands, Taiwan, and China. I’m not sure where people are getting the misinformation from as the company is very clear regarding its manufacturing process.
