Water heaters are pretty important pieces of equipment, so quality matters! As more companies move production overseas in a bid to save money and increase productivity, it can have a negative impact on the environment, local communities, and even product quality. In this article, I’ll be looking at water heaters made in the USA.

Water Heaters Made in the USA – Are There Any? (The Short Answer)

After looking for water heater manufacturers in the USA I found 2 companies that sell American made water heaters. They are U.S. Boiler and Bradford White.

Water Heater Manufacturers in the USA (Here’s What I Found)

Now that we know which companies manufacture water heaters in the US, let’s take a look at each one in a little more detail.

U.S. Boiler

U.S. Boiler was founded in 1992. As you probably gathered from looking at the company’s name, it manufactures boilers in the USA. From what I was able to find, it looks like the company manufactures its products at a facility in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

The company is owned by Burnham Holdings. Burnham Holdings seemingly works exclusively within the US. Burnham Holdings does have another facility located in Zanesville, Ohio, so some of U.S. Boiler’s manufacturing may be carried out at this location as well. But as a whole, all of U.S. Boiler’s manufacturing is carried out within the US.

U.S. Boiler’s water heaters are split into five categories. They are as follows.

Bradford White

Bradford White is a proud American water heater manufacturer that was founded in 1881. According to its official website, Bradford White manufactures the majority of its heaters at a facility located in Middleville, Michigan.

Bradford White offers water heaters and boilers for residential use and commercial use. For this article, I’ll be looking at its water heaters that are geared toward residential use.

The company employs over 2300 people throughout its American facilities making it a strong American manufacturer. At the time of writing this article, it looks like Bradford White has no intention of moving things out of the US anytime soon. Here’s a link to the company’s residential water heaters.

Honorable Mentions

I found a handful of companies that produce at least some water heaters in the USA. However, I wasn’t able to find out which specific models are American-made. Here’s what I found.

A.O. Smith

Located in Ashland City, Tennessee, A.O. Smith is a large water heater manufacturer that sells millions of products to customers worldwide. The company dates back to 1874, making it a company with several generations of experience.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to put this company onto the main list above since I couldn’t find out which of its specific water heaters are American-made. The company has five manufacturing facilities in the US, but it also has facilities in China and the Netherlands.

I’d recommend reaching out to the company directly before making a purchase to find out which of its water heaters are American-made. Here’s a link to the company’s product page, and here’s another to A.O. Smith’s contact information.

Rheem

Rheem is another company that does conduct some of its manufacturing within the US, but it also conducts some of its production overseas which makes things almost impossible when trying to find out which water heaters are American-made.

According to Rheem’s website, it manufactures its water heaters at facilities in Georgia, Arkansas, Alabama, California, and Minnesota. However, Rheem is owned by Paloma. Paloma is a Japanese company that manufactures its products in Japan. So it is unclear what percentage of Rheem’s products are made in the US.

Niagara Industries

Niagara Industries is a water heater manufacturer that was founded in 1985. Its headquarters is located in Miami and it looks like the company conducts at least some of its manufacturing within the US. Unfortunately, Niagara Industries doesn’t share much information regarding its manufacturing locations, so I did a little digging.

It looks like the company has ties to China as well as a couple of other countries. Just how much production goes on outside the US is unclear hence it receiving an honorable mention. Here’s a link to the company’s product page for those wanting to take a closer look.
