Pottery Barn is a popular furniture company that has retail stores not only in the US but also in Mexico, Australia, the UK, and other countries. With it being such a large company, it would be interesting to find out where it manufactures its furniture. Well, in this article, I’ll be looking at where Pottery Barn furniture is made and who makes it.
Who Makes Pottery Barn Furniture?
Pottery Barn is a subsidiary of Williams-Sonoma Inc. Williams-Sonoma also owns all of Pottery Barn’s sub-brands, including Pottery Barn Kids, Pottery Barn Teens, and more.
It is Williams Sonoma Inc. that is responsible for manufacturing all of Pottery Barn’s furniture. It wasn’t always this way. Pottery Barn was founded in New York in 1949, but Williams-Sonoma Inc. didn’t take over Pottery Barn until 1986. But since then, all of Pottery Barn furniture has been made under Williams-Sonoma Inc.
Where are Pottery Barn Products Made?
As for where Pottery Barn Furniture pieces are made, it is made in facilities dotted in countries all over the world.
According to CDFMS, a press release from December 2018 by Williams-Sonoma Inc. stated that the company is expanding its manufacturing to a facility in Lee County, Mississippi.
This facility takes care of manufacturing some of Pottery Barn’s handcrafted upholstered furniture.
This isn’t the only US facility that manufactures Pottery Barn furniture, as the company’s premium products are produced at a facility in North Carolina. This information came directly from the Hecht Group.
Also, Hecht Group’s website states that there are several warehouses across the US that are responsible for supplying Pottery Barn stores with inventory. It has locations in California, Texas, Pennsylvania, and, as already mentioned, North Carolina.
Not all of Pottery Barn’s furniture is made in the USA. According to Storables, Pottery Barn manufactures some of its furniture in China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and India. It also states that Pottery Barn does do its utmost to manufacture products domestically, but sourcing furniture from other countries allows the company to offer a more diverse range of products.
To summarize, Pottery Barn’s furniture is made all over the world. While I couldn’t find a way to tell which facility each furniture piece is made in, by reading through the company’s various product lines, it states in each product description whether the product was imported or made in the USA.
So, make sure that you read the product description before making a purchase to find out whether the piece you are looking at is imported or American made.
History of Pottery Barn Furniture
As mentioned toward the start of this article, Pottery Barn was founded in 1949. It’s an American founded company with deep roots in American manufacturing. While Pottery Barn has moved some manufacturing overseas throughout the years, it still works hard to maintain its high-quality manufacturing methods.
Sustainability is something that Pottery Barn strives for. It has a section on its website dedicated to sustainability. In this section, customers can read all the things that the company does to manufacture its products in a safe and sustainable way.
Unfortunately, at the time of writing this piece, Pottery Barn no longer offers its products to those living within the EU. According to the company’s website, this is due to challenges caused by new regulations in Europe. Pottery Barn didn’t offer more information regarding the situation. But if new information comes to light then this article will be updated.
