With so many companies opting to move manufacturing overseas in a bid to save money and increase productivity, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find products that aren’t made in China. But is this true for tape measures? Well, in this article, I’ll be looking for German-made tape measures.
Some readers may feel like there are a couple of companies missing from the list below. This list is for standard DIY tape measures, so things like seamstress measuring tapes don’t qualify for this list. If there are any readers out there who know of any German tape measure manufacturers that we may have missed then leave a comment below.
Are There Any Tape Measures Made in Germany? (The Short Answer)
After hinting around for tape measures made in Germany, I found 3 brands that manufacture them. They are Hoechstmass, Stahlwille, and Weiss Messzeuge.
German Made Tape Measures (A List of 3 Brands That Sell Them)
Now that we know which companies manufacture tape measures in Germany, let’s look at each one in a little more detail.
For more than 125 years Hoechstmass has been manufacturing high-quality measuring tools and equipment. While the company may not sound familiar by name, most people will recognize its tape measures as they are, for the most part, circular in shape with a wind or pull-back lever on one side.
From what I was able to find, it looks like Hoechstmass manufactures its tape measures at its facility in Sulzbach, Germany. I wasn’t able to find anything stating that the company operates overseas so I assume that all of its manufacturing is carried out in Germany.
On top of offering a wide range of tape measure styles, Hoechstmass also has a section on its website dedicated to making specialized and personalized measuring tapes. This is great for those who have a business name or design that they’d like to put onto their tools.
As for the company’s tape measures, here’s a link to the company’s store. Here you’ll find all of its measuring-related products.
Stahlwille is a proud German company that manufactures a wide range of hand tools. It was founded in 1862 in Wuppertal, Germany, and what started out as a poker and fire-tong manufacturing company quickly grew and expanded to become what it is today.
According to Stahlwille’s website, 100% of its tools are made in Germany. It manufactures its products across three sites in Germany. The company employs over 600 highly skilled members of staff who work tirelessly to produce some of the best German hand tools on the market.
As far as tape measures go, I could only find one type of tape measure that Stahlwille produces. That is the Stahwille 77040010 10 ft Roll Tape Measure.
Weiss Messzeuge (To Be Updated)
Unfortunately, at the time of writing this article, Weiss Messzeuge’s official website was undergoing renovations, so all of the information I have came from trusted third-party sites and sales pages.
From what I was able to find, it is a solely German-based company that manufactures a variety of measuring tools at its facility in Erbendorf, Germany.
Since the company’s site was undergoing renovations, I couldn’t find out much about the company itself and the quality of its products, but from the few sales sites I encountered, Weiss Messzeuge’s tape measures seem to be high-quality products. Here’s a link to some of its tape measures.
