Japanese Made Sunglasses – Can You Buy Them? (The Short Answer)

After doing some digging, I found 6 Japanese sunglasses brands that manufacture their products in Japan. They are Matsuda, Eyevan, Factory900, Masunaga,  Dot Dot, and TVR.

Sunglasses Made in Japan (Here’s What My Research Turned Up)

Now that we know which companies manufacture sunglasses in Japan, let’s take a look at each one in a little more detail.

Matsuda

Matsuda was founded in Tokyo in 1967. It is a pretty well-known luxury sunglasses brand that focuses on producing some of the highest-quality glasses on the market. Each pair of Matsuda sunglasses is crafted by Japanese master craftsmen. A single pair of these sunglasses can take up to 2 years to make.

100% of Matsuda’s sunglasses are made at its facility in the city of Sabae, Japan. There are over 250 individual steps involved during the manufacturing process, and those who manufacture Matruda’s products have spent decades learning and perfecting the art of making high-quality sunglasses.

Matsuda has plenty of choices when it comes to sunglasses, here’s a link to its product page. For those wanting some options to check out, here are a few of its popular designs.

Eyevan

Eyevan was originally founded in 1972, but it wasn’t until 1985 that the company began picking up international recognition. These days, Eyevan is well known for producing high-quality eyewear that is fashionable, durable, and can last a lifetime.

From the information I was able to find, it looks like Eyevan’s sunglasses are made in Japan. I found several articles posted on a handful of reputable sites, including one written by Spectr stating that Eyevan products are all made in Japan.

Not only that, but I was also able to find a page on the official Eyevan website that fully backs up the claims made by the third-party sources I found. It looks like the manufacturing is carried out in Sabae, Japan. This is also the same city in which Matsuda manufactures its products.

As for buying a pair of Eyevan sunglasses, it isn’t as easy as you might think. It isn’t possible to purchase a pair directly from its website, you can only browse on the Eyevan website. If you want to purchase a pair you’ll need to buy them from an official Eyevan seller like Good See Co.

Factory900

Factory900 was founded in 1937. It is a Japanese-founded company and it manufactures most of its products in Japan. I had difficulty finding out which of Factory900’s products are sunglasses. This was because most of them were labeled as fashion or lifestyle eyewear.

The company manufactures the majority of its products in Osaka, Japan. The iF design website states that 95% of Factory900’s products are made in Japan. However, I couldn’t find out where the other 5% of its manufacturing takes place.

As mentioned, I found it difficult to find out which of its products are sunglasses and which are regular glasses. That was until I came across a website that sells Factory900 glasses, and it listed 3 Factory900 products as sunglasses, they are as follows.

For those wanting to take a look at some of Factory900’s products on its official website, then I’ve got you covered! Here’s a link to the company’s product page, just be warned that it isn’t easy deciphering its regular glasses from its sunglasses. Also, if you want to find out which of its products are made in Japan, underneath the description for each product it has a little statement saying whether or not it was made in Japan.

Masunaga

Masunaga was founded in 1905 in Fukui, Japan. It is primarily an optical glasses manufacturer, meaning that it mostly caters to people who have minor sight issues. However, it does also have a few models of sunglasses for people to choose from.

An impressive 97% of Masunaga’s glasses are manufactured in Japan. That said, I wasn’t able to find out which products are made outside of Japan. But statistically speaking, the chances of you buying a Masunaga product that wasn’t made in Japan is pretty slim.

Each frame is handcrafted and every pair is specially designed to look awesome and last as long as possible. The company uses only the finest titanium and acetates for its products ensuring nothing but pure quality in every pair.
