Hiking boots are a must for all those adventurous people out there. But I’m sure that most people who own a pair of hiking boots don’t actually know where their boots were manufactured. Well, in this article, I’ll be looking for German-made hiking boots.
For the entries on the list below, I wasn’t able to find out which exact products are made in Germany. So I’ve put a link to each company’s contact page in each entry for readers to get in touch directly with the company for more information.
Brands that Make Hiking Boots in Germany? (The Short Answer)
After doing some digging, I found 4 companies that manufacture at least some hiking boots in Germany. They are Meindl, Hanwag, LOWA, and Haix.
German-Made Hiking Boots (A List Based on My Research)
Now that we know which brands manufacture German hiking boots, let’s take a closer look at each company.
Meindl was officially founded in 1928, however, its history dates back to 1683 when Petrus Meindl started producing shoes for local people. The company was founded in Kirchanschöring, Germany and it is still located here today.
Like many other companies out there, Meindl has facilities in a few different countries. Meindl has facilities in Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Vietnam, and in Germany. However, from what I was able to find, it looks like a lot of its manufacturing still takes place in Germany.
I’d recommend contacting the company via its contact page before committing to a purchase to ensure that the product you desire was manufactured in Germany.
Being eco-friendly is very important to Meindl. Over the years the company has taken large steps to become as green as possible. From planting trees to using sustainable materials, there’s a lot that Meindl does to protect the environment.
As for its hiking boots, the company has lots of different options depending on your needs. It has boots for mountain climbers, runners, trekkers, walkers, and more. Here’s a link to its hiking boot category page for those wanting to take a closer look.
Hanwag was founded in 1921 in a small town just a little northwest of Munich, Germany. While the company does manufacture some of its hiking boots in Germany, it looks like the majority of its manufacturing takes place across a few different countries.
I wasn’t able to pinpoint exactly which of its hiking boots are made in Germany, but for those wanting to take a closer look at some of Hanwag’s boots, here’s a link to the company’s product page.
If you want more information regarding the manufacturing location of a specific pair of Hanwag hiking boots then get in touch via the company’s contact page and I’m sure that the staff will be more than happy to give you any information that you require.
LOWA was founded in 1923 by a Bavarian cobbler in the small village of Jetzendorf, Germany. The company is primarily known for its high-quality military boots but it also manufactures lots of other types of footwear, this includes hiking boots.
Like the other entries on this list, LOWA does manufacture some of its products in Germany but it also manufactures products in factories in other countries. LOWA has manufacturing facilities in Germany, Italy, and Slovakia.
LOWA’s products are handmade and all of its materials and components are sourced from within Europe. 100% of the company’s operation takes place within Europe.
As for its products, just like the other entries on this list, I wasn’t able to pinpoint which of LOWA’s hiking boot lines are manufactured in Germany. Here’s a link to the company’s hiking boots page and here’s another link to the company’s contact page.
Finishing off this list, we have Haix. Haix was founded in 1948 in Mainburg, Germany. Over the years the company has grown to become internationally recognized for its high-quality footwear.
Haix is very open about its company history, this includes its manufacturing. Haix has manufacturing facilities in Germany and in Croatia meaning that 100% of the company’s production takes place within Europe. I wasn’t able to find out what percentage of its products are made in Germany.
So much like the other entries on this list, here’s a link to the company’s contact page so potential customers can reach out and find out which of its hiking boots are German-made. And here’s a link to the company’s hiking boot product page.
