Over the last few decades, many companies have moved production to China to reduce manufacturing costs. Unfortunately, this can have a negative impact on the environment, product quality, and more. In this article, I’ll find out if there are any hair dryers manufactured in Japan.

Are There Any Companies That Manufacture Hair Dryers in Japan? (The Short Answer)

Japanese-made hair dryers seem to be quite rare. I could only find one company that manufactures hair dryers in Japan. That company is Tescom.

Japanese-Made Hair Dryers (What My Research Found)

Now that we know which brand produces Japanese hair dryers let’s look at it in a little more detail.

Tescom

Tescom is a Japanese company, and its headquarters is located in Nishigotanda, Shinagawa-Ku. Tescom dates back to 1965, but it wasn’t until 1969 that the company started manufacturing hair dryers. For those wanting to learn more about the company’s history, Tescom’s website has a very detailed history section on its website.

As for its manufacturing, Tescom has manufacturing facilities dotted around Japan. It also has a manufacturing facility in China and one in the Philippines. This makes it difficult to pinpoint exactly which of its products is made in Japan.

That being said, according to Tescom’s website, its hair dryers are designed and developed in a facility located in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

I came across a couple of Tescom’s hair dryer products labeled as made in Japan. This seems like pretty reliable information as it comes from Amazon, Discover Japan, and the Tescom company itself. Here’s what I found.

Honorable Mention

I came across one company that seems to manufacture at least some hair dryers in Japan. However, I couldn’t definitively prove which of its products are made in Japan, so it gets an honorable mention.

Panasonic

Panasonic was founded in 1918 in Osaka, Japan. Panasonic is known for batteries, computer chips, hair dryers, and more. It is a giant in the tech and electronics world, having sold millions of products to customers in more than 100 countries.

With it being such a large company, Panasonic manufactures its products in a few different countries. From what I was able to find, Panasonic manufactures a large number of its products in China. That being said, it does do some of its manufacturing in Japan.

I wasn’t able to find any specific model of hair dryer that’s made in Japan hence why it didn’t make the list above. Here’s a link to the company’s hair dryer product page. I’d recommend getting in touch directly and asking Panasonic about its Japanese-made products.

I also found a handful of third-party websites that advertise Panasonic hair dryers as being made in Japan. However, upon closer inspection, these sources didn’t seem to be particularly reliable. So, getting in touch with the company directly is the best course of action.

Hair Dryers that Are Commonly Mistaken as Being Made in Japan

As I was looking for hair dryers made in Japan, I came across a couple of sites and product postings for companies that I initially mistook as being Japanese manufacturers. However, upon closer inspection, this doesn’t seem to be the case. Here’s what I found.

Sharp

A quick Google search for Japanese hair dryers will show you multiple Sharp products. However, this seems like a Google algorithm error. Sharp is a Japanese-founded company, and while it does manufacture some of its products in Japan, this doesn’t seem to be the case for its hair dryers.

ReFa

Like Sharp, ReFa kept popping up while searching for hair dryers made in Japan. But upon closer inspection, it seems like ReFa’s products are manufactured by‎ 株式会社MTG. This means that ReFa’s hair dryers are made in China since ‎ 株式会社MTG is a Chinese manufacturing company.
