Generators Made in Canada (What I Found)

With many companies outsourcing production to China to cut costs, it can be difficult to find products manufactured in other countries. This is especially true when it comes to generators. For this article, I did some research as to whether any portable generator companies manufacture products in Canada.

I was able to find several generator companies that produce at least some products in Canada. However, all but one of those companies didn’t quite make the main list as they produce products aimed at industrial use, and this list is for consumer generators.

Which Brands Sell Generators Made in Canada? (The Short Answer)

I was able to find 1 brand that produces generators in Canada. It is Champion Power Equipment.

Canadian Made Generators (What My Research Turned Up)

Now that we know which brand produces Canadian-made generators, let’s take a look at it in a little more detail.

Champion Power Equipment

Champion Power Equipment was founded in 2003 and its headquarters is located in Santa Fe Spring, California. It is an American-founded brand, however, Champion Power Equipment operates a large manufacturing facility in Canada, hence why it made this list.

Champion Power Equipment produces a wide range of electronic equipment, from shredders and water pumps to pressure washers and generators. Champion Power Equipment has sold more than 4.5 million generators in North America, so it’s safe to say they know how to produce high-quality generators.

This company has two main focus points. Quality and customer satisfaction. According to its website, Champion Power Equipment strives to achieve 100% customer satisfaction along with creating products that will last decades.

Something that this company provides that a lot of other companies don’t is a “where it’s made flag” next to each product on its website. This makes things incredibly easy to find out where your product was made.

However, there is one thing that is a little bit questionable and may put you off. The engines are manufactured in China and then shipped over to the US and Canada. So, whilst some of its generators are manufactured in Canada, the engines are shipped in from China.

The Canadian headquarters is located in Burlington, Ontario and it also has a manufacturing facility in Toronto. This facility manufactures a handful of Champion Power Equipment products. This includes three portable generators. Here is a link to the company’s portable generator page.

Honorable Mention

I found one other brand that almost made the main list – King Canada. This brand is a Canadian born brand that used to produce all of its products in Canada. However, in recent years it seems like the company has moved much of its production to China.

King Canada

Kind Canada was founded in 1983. It is a power tool and equipment company that produces a wide range of products for the American and Canadian markets, this includes portable generators.

King Canada’s primary facility is located in Montreal where it has a 120,000-square-foot warehouse. However, it doesn’t seem like much of the production happens at this warehouse anymore.

According to one source, “Several years ago they shut down the Canadian manufacturing facilities, and went to Asian suppliers.”

I also found another source that somewhat backs up the statement above. Although this one states that the final assembly takes place in North America, the manufacturing is carried out in “other countries”. This gives more credence to the statement above.

Overall it certainly looks as though King Canada used to produce its products in Canada, but now it seems like the company has gone in a different direction.
