These days, it’s hard to find a company that hasn’t outsourced production to countries like China in a bid to reduce production costs. But is this true for drill bits made in Germany? Well, in this article, that’s what I’ll be looking at.
Are There Any Drill Bits Made in Germany? (The Short Answer)
Finding drill bits made in Germany is more difficult than you might think. But I managed to find 3 companies that definitely manufacture drill bits in Germany. They are Wemaro, Keil, and Heller Tools.
German Made Drill Bits (What I found)
It looks like the vast majority of large German tool companies don’t actually produce that many products in Germany. But, for those that do, it isn’t particularly clear just how much of the manufacturing goes on within Germany, that is with the exception of the three brands below.
Wemaro
Wemaro was founded in 1989, its headquarters is located in Illingen, Germany. It is a pretty well-known company and it has over 150 international dealers. For the most part, Wemaro looks to be a German manufacturer, although some of its products don’t really have much information regarding manufacturing locations.
Luckily, it looks like some of its drill bits are manufactured in Germany. For some reason, the information for its drill bits isn’t on its German site, the information actually comes from its Indian site, which seems rather odd. Here’s a link to Wemaro’s drill bits, you’ll see clearly underneath each product which ones are made in Germany.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like you can buy products from Wemaro’s official website. From what I understand, you have to get in touch with the company directly. To contact the company, simply scroll down to the bottom of any page on its website and click the contact option and you’ll see all of its contact info.
Keil
Keil is a professional tool company that’s been in the tool industry for more than 50 years. It is a proud German company and it has recently relocated its main facility to Dinklage, Germany.
From the information I was able to find, it looks like Keil manufactures its drill bits at its facility in Germany. The company’s specialty is drill bits, so it will come as no surprise to learn that Keil has a lot of different drill bits to choose from. Here’s a link to the company’s listings page. You will need to use the drop-down ‘category’ box to change between metal, wood, and hammer bits.
Heller Tools
Heller Tools dates back to 1898 when it was founded in Nürtingen, Germany. It is a very well-known company thanks to its long-lasting and durable drill bits. From drill bits that go through granite, masonry, and even reinforced concrete, Heller Tools has it all.
From the information I was able to find, it looks like Heller Tools manufactures its products at a facility in Dinklage, Germany. That said, according to its company section on the Heller Tools website, it operates in more than 60 countries worldwide. But it doesn’t mention any other manufacturing facility other than its one in Dinklage. Also, it has a made in Germany logo at the bottom of the page as seen below.
As mentioned, Heller Tools is well known for its high-quality drill bits. Since it has lots of different options to choose from, here is a link to each of its drill bit categories for you to take a look at.
- Hammer Drill Bits
- Concrete and Masonry Drill Bits
- Wood Drill Bits
- Metal Drill Bits
- Universal and Special Drill Bits
Honorable Mention
I found a brand that produces some of its products in Germany. But I couldn’t find out if this applies to its drill bits. Here’s what I found.
Guhring
Guhring is a German-based company that manufactures a variety of tools and tool accessories, this includes drill bits. Its headquarters is located in Albstadt-Ebingen, Germany, but it has facilities dotted all around the world.
The company has more than 70 production locations in 48 countries worldwide, which makes it very tricky to pinpoint where exactly each product is made. Also, it seems like you have to be a member in order to see prices and product details, which doesn’t make things any easier.
So while the company definitely manufactures some products in Germany, I believe that the only way to find out which of its drill bits, if any are manufactured in Germany is to reach out to the company directly. Here’s a link to the company’s drill bit page, and for the company’s contact information, just scroll to the bottom of its homepage and you’ll find its contact details.
