Did you know that the first dishwasher was invented back in 1850? That was 170 years ago! Of course, it was slow and inefficient, unlike the models on the market today. In 2022, dishwashers are a common sight in many kitchens worldwide.
It is estimated that more than 89 million homes in the United States have one, and this number only increases yearly. German dishwasher brands have an excellent reputation for design and reliability, which might have you wondering – what dishwashers are made in Germany?
Brands That Make Dishwashers in Germany
After doing some research, I found a few brands that offer dishwashers made in Germany. These companies are Miele, Bosch, Siemens, and Neff.
German-Made Dishwashers: A List I Made
Let’s dig into these companies a little more and learn about their dishwashers made in Germany.
Miele is a German company that produces high-end domestic appliances. Founded in 1899, it has always been a family-owned and family-run company, and it was the first to produce an electric dishwasher in Europe in 1930.
It expanded to the United States in 1983, opening the first American headquarters in Somerset, New Jersey, before relocating to Princeton, New Jersey in 1999.
Miele currently has 12 production sites in Europe, including 8 in Germany and the Dongguan factory in China. According to Miele’s official website, the company’s dishwashers are produced in Germany, in the Bielefeld and Euskirchen factories, and in the Czech Republic in the Unicov factory. Here are some Miele dishwashers made in Germany:
Miele has won several awards for its dishwashers. In 2014, the G 699 dishwasher was awarded the 2014 Plus X Award, the world’s highest innovation award. Also, Miele was awarded the Canstar Award for most satisfied customers in the dishwasher category for four years in a row from 2014 to 2017.
Robert Bosch GmbH, also known as Bosch, is a German engineering and technology company founded in Germany in 1886. The company produces household appliances, security systems, motor vehicle parts, and power tools.
In 1967, Bosch and Siemens merged to create a joint venture called BSH. However, in 2014, Bosch bought out Siemens’ 50% stake in BSH. BSH, the company behind brands such as Siemens and Neff, is one of the top three companies for household appliances. Its dishwashers are known to be some of the most reliable in the world.
The company produced its first dishwasher in 1964; in 1991, the first one was imported to the United States. In 1999, it launched the first fully automatic dishwasher. Today, the company has 40 production sites around the world.
After researching, I realized that it wasn’t easy to know exactly which Bosch dishwashers are made in Germany, so I contacted a Bosch representative on Whatsapp, who claimed that the company has a specific dishwasher facility in Dillingen, Germany.
I did some research on the Dillingen factory and came across an official press release where it says that “since 1976, the site has been used by BSH Hausgeräte GmbH to manufacture dishwashers for sale across the globe.” It is the largest dishwasher factory in the world, with 12,000 produced daily.
So, it seems that many Bosch dishwashers are made in Germany. However, some are also produced in Spain. Also, you can see here that this Bosch Series 4 dishwasher is made in Turkey, while this one from the same series is made in Germany. Some series 6 dishwashers are produced in Turkey, while others are produced in Germany.
Here are some Bosch dishwashers made in Germany:
Siemens is a German multinational conglomerate founded in 1847. Today, it covers a wide range of industries and is one of the leading household appliance manufacturers in the world. According to its official website, “all dishwashers with glassZone and Zeolith drying are manufactured in Germany. Siemens has always manufactured household appliances at six locations in Germany.”
However, Encyclopedia claims that in 2002 a dishwashing production plant was added to Siemens’ factory in Lodz, Poland. So, it seems like Siemens doesn’t only produce dishwashers in Germany.
It is easy to verify this, as many Siemens dishwashers available online today are made in Poland. Also, you can find models that are made in Turkey and others made in Spain. As Siemens is owned by Robert Bosch GmbH, also known as Bosch, it makes sense for both brands to produce their dishwashers on the same production lines, and this was confirmed by somebody who works closely with these appliances.
Here are some Siemens dishwashers made in Germany:
In 2020, Siemens won the 2020 Domestic and General Total Excellence and Quality Award, which was determined by sending surveys to customers of most major kitchen appliance manufacturers.
Neff, a high-end kitchen appliance manufacturer, was founded in 1877 in Germany. In 1967, it was bought by a joint venture between Siemens and Bosch called Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte, commonly known as BSH.According to some sources, recent dishwashers from Neff are produced in Poland and don’t quite live up to German standards. As Neff is owned by the same parent company as Bosch and Siemens, there is a good chance these dishwashers are produced in the Lodz facility.
Also, as you can see here, the company also produces dishwashers in Turkey, with a forum member complaining about the quality. However, it still produces some dishwashers in Germany at a facility in Bretten. Here are some Neff dishwashers made in Germany:
